Stylist and Blogger, Destinie Bello talks balancing being a mom and her career

Moms aka Superhero's do it all, they run households, have careers, help with homework all while trying to find time for themselves and keep it all together. I have always been interested in seeing women juggle it all, but I became fascinated even more after becoming a mom myself. While still on maternity leave I started following some pretty cool women, New York stylist Destinie Bello was one of them. She took some time to talk about finding balance, daily inspiration, and life with her adorable one-year-old daughter.

How did you realize styling was something you wanted to pursue?
I've just always been really into it since young. Growing up I experimented with myself, lol. I'd try so many different looks! I just look at everything with a stylist's eye, lol. My favorite thing to do is watch music videos and I'll always say things like "I love this" or "they should have done this".

Do you find it harder to balance your career and personal life now that you are a mother?
I don't actually. I find that I'm more motivated and inspired now that I'm a mommy. My daughter is the reason I keep going.

How does living in NY impact your style?
New York is known for so many different cool styles. You can do anything you want! I never feel like something is "too much" here. It's all about expression.

Where do you find style or fashion inspiration from?
All over! Everyday people, books, and the internet for sure. There's always something new being created or something being brought back to life years later.

What are the top five things you think every woman should have in their wardrobe?
1. Black heels
2. A leather jacket
3. Leather or waxed pants
4. A versatile pair of sneakers
5. An oversized t-shirt

What's the best advice you have received and the best advice you can give someone else on pursuing their dreams?

The best advice I've been given is to trust myself.  The best thing you can do for yourself is just to start. Just do it! You can have so many ideas, but they're no good in your head. Bring them to life! When you start, you can then see where you want to go, and learn what works for you and what doesn't.
