Creative Director, The2traintoParis, Ebony John

Personal style is becoming a thing of the past thanks to social media, everyone is starting to dress the same and even look the same. With so much of the same recycled style roaming our Instagram feeds, you take notice when you come across someone not afraid to do their own thing. I was first introduced to Ebony in 2012, her signature red lipstick, long black hair, and not to mention her style all stood out to me. The stylist and creative director is now embarking on a new endeavor and adding entrepreneur to her resume. We recently got a chance to talk about personal style and what it takes to run a successful brand.

What was your first introduction into fashion?
I was born in Trinidad and my Mom says, even then as a child, I use to cry if she dressed me in casual clothes and flip flops. She said I was happy when I was dressed up wearing my hard bottom shoes. Lol... I guess that's my official intro, knowing what I felt best in at the age of 4years old.

You recently added entrepreneur to your resume, how is running your business different from being a creative director and styling?
Being an entrepreneur/business woman has been one of my hardest endeavors yet. Styling and having creative direction comes a little easier but running a business doesn't. I have to seek more info and put forth more effort than I thought. I've made many mistakes but I've learned so much in the process.

I love the meaning behind your brand The2TrainToParis. Was this always something you wanted to explore?
Oh Thank You!!  Yes. I knew I've always wanted to create something that 20yrs from now you'll find in a vintage store.

Staples are a major part of a woman's closet, what are the five things you think every woman should own?
Staples are a necessity! I think every woman should have
1. Great graphic tee (can be worn dress up and down)
2. White button up
3. Great fitting black skinny
4. Black motorcycle jacket
5. Black suede booties

Stepping out and doing something new can be scary, especially because you do not know how receptive people will be to it. What is the best advice you've ever received and what advice can you give people on running a business?
First and foremost, believe in your DOPEness. Once you believe in you, no one can stop you!  And the best advice, I've ever received was make a plan, build a team and execute!
