The truth about blogging

This topic is long overdue because I always get questions about what exactly goes into running a blog. Of course, some people see it as a simple hobby but believe me a lot of time, patience, dedication, and creativity goes into this "hobby". There are times that I am too tired to do anything let alone stay on track with a consistent posting schedule. Not all bloggers have the luxury of this being their main source of income, some have full-time jobs, children, and yeah a thing called life. Finding balance can be difficult at times, I think after three years of blogging and some mistakes under my belt this post finally feels right.

Your work is never done. Yes, running a blog seems easy, but actually, it can be the complete opposite at times. There will be times that your site will crash or you may be in a content rut, but the most important thing to remember is to never compromise your work. You will always be thinking of ideas, things you could have done differently or improve on, and keeping up with your social platforms.

Do not compare yourself or your site to others. This is something I had to learn early on. It takes too much energy and makes you less productive. Think about the people you are comparing yourself too and how hard they have had to work to get to this level.

Content is everything. Always remember quality over quantity. Although it does not seem like it from looking at my pictures, but I am NOT photogenic. I will take about 20 pictures before I say fuck it and always end up only like about three photos. Yes, you should keep your site updated but not to the point that you are putting out meaningless content that you do not fully support. I just went through a blog cleanse, which consisted of getting rid of the material I know longer connected with.

Your social media matters. I am not an overly private person, but I do like to keep certain things to myself. I also have to keep in mind that I run a blog and things like Instagram, Twitter, and facebook matter. Even if you are only posting on these channels to let people know you have new content, you should at least have two social media platforms you share updates on.

Have a unique voice. Of course, you could just write the same post most bloggers recycle over and over again, but then what sets you apart. People want to feel like they can relate and you want them to keep coming back. Your readers need to trust you and the main way to gain that trust is by being yourself. For example, whenever I am thinking about buying a particular makeup product I have specific youtube bloggers I look for because I know they will be honest and will not just tell me to purchase something because they are getting paid to do so.
