How to get out of a creative funk

Right now I think we are all trying to find ways to stay safe, stay healthy, inspired, and to make the best of our current situation. While some of us are still working, temporarily out of work, homeschooling, or making our 5th market run it’s easy to get in a repetitive cycle. It's easy for people to say “use this time wisely” and work on something you’ve been putting off, but what about the people in a creative funk? Here are some tips to help you stay motivated and inspired.

Get Inspired. When I’m feeling uninspired and my brain is a little foggy, I’ll go on Pinterest and create some mood boards. It's also the perfect time to follow some new people on Instagram. My favorite pages mainly consist of women entrepreneurs my age, different style pages, and fresh young designers. If social media isn't your thing find some podcast or eBooks that interest you.

Write it down. We all love our phones, but lately writing it down on paper has been helping me organize my thoughts. I’ll write down whatever comes to my mind whether it be ideas, thoughts, upcoming meetings, planning future shoots, or just making a to-do list. Get a notebook to write down some monthly or weekly goals and try to get them done.

Get rid of unnecessary mess. This is the perfect time to go through your junk. My personal favorite is cleaning out my closet, getting rid of clothes that no longer serve a purpose. I do not like holding on to things I don’t wear, it takes up space and it forces me evaluate what I spend my money on.

Self-love. Sometimes we are creatively stumped because we have too many distractions. We are human so it’s easy to be hard on ourselves. Take some time out and work on your self. Do things you love. Exercise to get your mind right, treat yourself to a spa day (once we are off quarantine), rest and relax, and make an effort to schedule time dedicated to doing things that make you feel at peace.
