Packing 101

Tis the season to go on vacations and practically live out of your suitcase, whether you are going on a quick weekend getaway for some R&R or a long holiday somewhere warm, packing is always the number one thing that people have trouble with. Between trying to compress your wardrobe down to avoid extra costs and making sure that your luggage gets to your destination, getting to the airport on time is the easy part. I have put together some tips that have helped me when it comes packing for vacation and hopefully can help you guys out as well.

1. Start thinking about what you want to wear and bring on vacation, this one thing can cut down on the last minute/night before packing stress. I tend to start thinking about outfits the week before or if you are someone who likes to do a little online shopping for vacation, I would suggest you do that a month before. A month, because you want to account for shipping and returns just in case the item does not fit.

2. TAKE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING IN YOUR SUITCASE, I can not stress this enough!! Especially if you plan on packing expensive things in your suitcase ( electronics, expensive bags/ shoes) not everyone is trust worthy, even in their work place. Once your suitcase leaves your possession anything goes, if you have ever noticed when you finally get to your destination and open your suitcase some things are moved around or opened. Taking pictures after you have finished packing or even writing down what is in there, helps you if anything is missing. Thinks to Kris Jenner's stolen Chanel bags on an episode of KUWTK, I take pictures of everything.

3. If it is expensive, put it in a carry-on, the easiest way to know that something is safe, is to carry it with you on the plane. If I take my camera or laptop on vacation it is always either in my purse or in my carry-on, my heels stay with me!

3. Do not take your entire closet, I am guilty of trying to do this, especially when it comes to shoes. I always end up over packing and my favorite excuse is " I need options", but it becomes a pain when you fly with an airline that charges you if your luggage weighs over a certain amount. Try bringing an outfit for the day and one for the night, depending on how long you will be there and what you intend to do.

4. Keep lotion, oils, or perfume away from your clothing, it never fails I always end up with something wasting on my clothes inside my suit case. So now I put all of those things in a zip lock back and then inside a little travel bag inside my suit case.

5. When in another country, put your passport away somewhere safe as soon as you no longer need it. When you get to your hotel put it away somewhere that is extra safe, so that it can not get misplaced by house keeping or you don't forget where you put it.
